Architecture is the design of spaces while urban planning is related with the organization of cities.

When the architects are designing a building, they must take into account the following issues:

· Structures: Beams and columns are very essential in a building because they ensure strength and stability to adverse events, such as an earthquake.

· Proportion: Spaces should be designed for people and not an ant or an elephant. Moreover, beams should be higher compared to the thickness of slabs, for example.

· Context: A building is only a small part of the city and it must respond to the context, which is a portion of the city which surrounds that building.

On the other hand, when the urban planners are going to design the organization of a city, they must take into account the public services, communication ways (including railways), as well as natural factors such as groundwater levels or seismic zones, etc; for designing slopes, retaining walls, embankments, bridges, etc…

The main purpose of architecture is living because the buildings are shelters which protect us from exogenous factors, such as climate.
